The Plagues began with a conversation between Jessica and her father about religion, history, and the ways humanity has tried to explain tragedy through the actions of gods. The discussion turned to the way destructive forces are sometimes personified or even deified as a means of understanding them.

From that conversation came a challenge: take the ten plagues of Egypt and imagine each one as its own deity. If the Biblical tradition had developed a pantheon, what kind of god might embody blood, darkness, pestilence, frogs, or death?

The resulting series explores those questions through imagined divine figures, each inspired by the nature, symbolism, and consequences of a particular plague.
